Western Calligraphy Workshop

2024-03-13 Mar, 2024

The History Department organised a western calligraphy taster workshop in the Visual Arts Room on 13 March 2024.  Twenty students from various forms joined the activity after school.

Serving as the tutor, our alumnus Mr. Gordon Lo, shared with our students the basic skills of calligraphy and the structure of the English alphabet based on the Copperplate script, a calligraphic style that thrived since the 18th century. After practising individual letters and words, the students tried their hands at crafting their own bookmarks as final products. Filled with passion and optimism, they penned positive messages, quotes and lyrics alike on their own bookmarks.

Throughout the 2-hour workshop, our students demonstrated patience, concentration and enthusiasm in the craft and had a peaceful and creative time doing calligraphy. As the workshop ended, they took their unique bookmarks, expanding their horizons and learning that calligraphy is an interesting and rewarding form of art.
